RUMBA

Rumba is a popular genre of Cuban music involving dance, percussion, and song. It is based on African music and dance traditions, namely Abakuá and Yuka, as well as the Spanish-based coros de clave. There are three types of Rumba: Guaguancó, Columbia and Yambú. Vocal improvisation, elaborate dancing and polyrhythmic drumming are the key components of all rumba styles. A growing musical tendency nowadays is that of adding Rumba segments in Timba (Cuban Salsa) songs, which has led many dancers to learn Rumba in order to fully connect with the music. This workshop is a great, rare opportunity to learn the dance.

MUSICALITY & INTERPRETATION
Connecting with Cuban music is possibly the biggest challenge faced when learning the different dances from the island, due to the rich complexity of the music made there. This workshop will enhance your understanding of rhythmic patterns while developing the skill of executing a variety of different steps on beat. Later on, we'll work on interpreting the music so as to, for example, execute accents and respond to changes of beat. This workshop is a  complement to the preceding Rumba one.
