Spectator 6//

Bringing back the sounds of 80’s new wave, Spectator 6 tops spunky beats with cool synths, crunchy guitars, and girl-group style harmonies. In the summer of 2018,Annie Wilkinson wanted to start a new girl-group that veered off from the sound of the guitar based bands she had previously been a part of - Zolty Cracker, Zulu/MCA recording artists knock-down-ginger,Thermos, Onward Voyageur - and focus on the 80s sounds of the bands she grew up with. Soon joined by Tallulah Winkelman (China Repair) on guitar and Terri Upton (Frog Eyes, Carolyn Mark, Hank Pine) on bass, the band quickly set about writing a set of upbeat, electropop-punk songs strong on hooks and harmonies, and dealing with heartbreak, politics and feminism.

Beau Wheeler//

"One of Vancouver's punchiest indie singers." Fish Griwkowsky, Edmonton Sun Beau Wheeler is a queer non-binary composer and powerhouse vocalist who’s grandfather played piano with Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr. Beau, who recently came out as trans, is about to release two new albums. They deal with gender, surviving cancer, and the human experience of love, in a way that turns the tough stuff into something beautiful, something positive, and something everyone feels at some point in their life. This is the magic of their work, an unflinching ability to galvanize a roomful of strangers by exposing the vulnerabilities that we all feel. After surviving cancer, Beau performed as part of the Vancouver Juno Awards in 2018 held on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Watuth nations where Beau grew up. Lived experience has forged an indomitable positive spirit and a blazing live performer who has shared the stage with artists including Dan Mangan, Shane Koyczan and

Tanya Tagaq. They are also featured as a vocalist on recordings such as “A Small Wonder” by A.C. Newman of the New Pornographers. This artist has a dynamic range that can lift an audience to it’s feet in a moment and in the next, stop your heart so that the whole room could hear a pin drop.

Beau Wheeler has an "effortlessly big voice"-Adrian Mack The Georgia Straight Creating an inclusive live performance experience that feels inspirational is deeply personal for Beau as a queer artist. Rock n roll is basically taking the risk of really being yourself, when we see a performer like Beau who can do that, it is disarming regardless of style. It’s also infectious. Musically and personally, this ethos is at the heart of Wheeler’s live performance. Beau’s musical heritage inspired the recording of one of two upcoming albums. One is an acoustic album that they recorded with their band and co-produced with Jesse Waldman in the tradition of the 1950’s and 60’s where all of the instruments and vocals are captured in one take with all musicians playing together. The other is a dark wave synth pop album produced by Jason Corbett of Actors where Beau performs all of the instrumentation and vocals on the album. Both albums feature authentically emotional, instantly impactful collections of songs. Beau Wheeler brings a message of positivity through dark times, and an exceptional ability to perform whether it be solo in a one room wooden church as part of ArtsWells or Robson Valley Music Festival, with their band The Black Salt Sea in larger theatre settings, showcasing at Folk Alliance or live-streaming for Philadelphia Folk Society. Beau can make an audience feel like they are no longer alone.
