The VICO Summer Academy is back this year, and we can’t wait to show you what comes out of this one-of-a-kind creative intensive! Participating composers spend two weeks learning and developing new work, in collaboration with a distinguished faculty of VICO composer mentors, roster musicians, and international guests.

June 7 will showcase world premieres of brand new compositions for an intercultural tentet, conducted by Janna Sailor and featuring Saina Khaledi (santour), Ali Razmi (tar), Douglas Hensley (oud), Liam Hockley (clarinet), Paolo Bortolussi (flute), Zhongxi Wu (sheng), Jun Rong (erhu), Sarah Kwok (viola), Mark Haney (contrabass), and Brian Nesselroad (percussion). In addition to these new works by Sobhan Hagar, Daniel Musashi, Parsa Noroozian, Farangis Nurulla-Khoja, Dubravko Pajalic, and Glenn Sutherland, featured international guest Erica Roozendaal (accordion) will join the ensemble to perform the world premiere of a new concerto for accordion and tentet by Farshid Samandari.

This concert is part of the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra's Spring Concert Series. Other events are happening May 30 at St. Andrew's United Church (North Vancouver), June 5 at Notional Space (East Vancouver), and June 7 at the ANNEX (downtown Vancouver).
